There is no shortage of skincare products on the market these days – and it gets overwhelming trying to find the ‘right’ products for your skin. (Who remembers the blue jar of cleansing cream with the distinct smell you could not miss? I swear that created more skin problems than it helped back in the day.) Luckily times have changed. As consumers have become more aware of toxic ingredients in skincare and beauty products, companies have listened – and the choices are endless!! I personally have tried hundreds of products through the years (and spent a LOT of money), I finally found a family of products that work best for me. Read on for some of my faves!
I use Radiantly You Dead Sea Whipped Face Wash as my daily cleanser. It has been proven to help problem skin such as eczema, psoriasis, and acne. It helps remove toxins from the skin as well as minimizes pores. The creamy formula lathers nicely on wet skin, and a little goes a long way! Radiantly You is a family-owned company based in New York. Their mission is to develop sustainable products without toxins, and to give back to communities throughout the world.
I can’t even tell you how many toners I’ve tried throughout the years – most of them include alcohol, which is super drying for the skin. As my skin has aged retaining moisture is key, so I was delighted to try Thayers Cucumber Facial Toner which is alcohol-free. It really delivers! Its gentle formula cleanses, tones, moisturizes, and balances the pH level of skin. Thayers is committed to creating pure and effective products that are cruelty-free, as well as socially and environmentally responsible.
Finding the right moisturizer can be frustrating – especially when living in the Midwest. Extreme climate shifts can wreck havoc on the skin. I’ve struggled through the years to find a go-to moisturizer that is light enough in the summer without being greasy but can stand up to cold Illinois winter weather. This is it! TruSelf Organics Ocean Mineral Moisturizer is light, creamy, and blends beautifully into the skin without any greasy residue. Not only that, it offers natural UV protection, contains anti-aging properties, and stimulates skin cell renewal and collagen production. TruSelf Organics creates products that are safe, vegan, and cruelty-free at an affordable price.
I admit it – I have fallen for marketing hype regarding ‘miracle’ eye creams through the years. I can’t even tell you how much money I’ve wasted on products that don’t work, or are not miraculous enough to justify the investment. My personal philosophy is that it should be possible to find products that deliver but don’t drain your wallet. Acure Radically Rejuvenating Eye Cream is a winner! It made allure’s list of 9 Eye Creams Under $20 That Really Work in April 2020. Acure is 100% vegan, 0% pretentious – there products are paraben free, sulfate free, mineral oil free, petrolatum free, formaldehyde free, and cruelty free.
This product is definitely a special one – Alba Botanica Acnedote Scrub is gentle enough to use on my face, but effective enough to use on other parts of my body. I typically use it once or twice a week, depending on the condition of my skin. Alba Botanica creates 100% plant-based products that are cruelty-free. They also aim to reduce their environmental footprint by using recycled packaging and biodegradable ingredients.
When SOAK opened a shop in my town, I was delighted to find a local company that hand-crafts each of their products. I’ve tried (and loved) several of them, from the decadent body butters to healing body balms and lip balms. They are fantastic! Their scents range from herbal and earthy to floral and citrus. All are created with organic and non-toxic ingredients.
I’m obsessed with their lotions and have one of each scent – they blend in and leave your skin silky smooth and hydrated. The Naked Bee strives to create products that make a positive impact on both people and the planet. Their products contain “all of the good stuff, none of the bad”. From lotions to lip balms, you can’t go wrong with their products – especially at this price point.
