It’s important to know where your food comes from. Supporting local farms and farmers’ markets means you know where your food is raised and grown, plus you are guaranteed to have the freshest products around. Your farmer can also tell you exactly what type of soil and treatments are used, and anything else you want to know. They may even give you a tour of the fields and let you pet the animals too! Another bonus – it helps support the local economy when you shop local rather than large national store chains.
Milk & Honey Farmstead is a wonderful farm in Wauconda, Illinois. They specialize in grass-fed beef, pastured pork, pastured poultry and eggs, and natural lifestyle products. Their market also features fresh, seasonal produce, honey, and much more.
I try to stop by weekly to see what Milk & Honey has in store. We got some delicious filet mignon, red peppers, zucchini, and peaches to throw on the grill a couple weeks ago – delicious! We regularly enjoy their farm fresh eggs – and can even hang out with the chickens 😀
They often have special events such as a “Burger Throwdown”, with nearby restaurants competing for the title of best burger, and also volunteer opportunities on Saturdays. Check them out if you are in the area!
